IGOR

EARFQUAKE - Tyler has made it clear who his inspirations are, and you can hear them in every element of his music. Drum kits, patterns and funky synths are reminiscent of his fav Pharrell. This dreamy breakup song feels like Flower Boy part II with its spacey sounds and longing lyrics. I may or may not have added this one to my library.

I THINK - Ok now?! Ya’ll may not know but you will soon discover, that I am a sure fire sucka for pumped up drums and ANY jam that makes you wanna shake ya booty. This is a great one! Plus that “I think I’m falling in love” just hits soft enough against the roughness of it’s beat to feel like a match made in heaven. It doesn’t go against the grain so much it feels like Shaq and his 4”4’ girlfriend that one time a few years ago.

Yeah. Not like that.

Regardless, the drop outs and soulful switch ups make this song easy to follow and generally fun to listen to.

RUNNING OUT OF TIME - “I been runnin’ outta spells to make you love meee…” Ok Tyler, we hear your lil vocal training. Sometimes though, I’d love it if he’d sing without pitching up his voice so much. And also, baby – the harder you try the harder it’s gonna sound like you tried.

“Sometimes you have to close a door to open up a window.”

Overall this album so far is sounding like its all about one person. How Tyler is trying to confess his feelings but feels conflicted about approaching them. You good fam?

NEW MAGIC WAND - I imagine an eighteen year old kid in his room filming TikTok’s while his mom walks in making a face like TF is you listenin’ to?”

Also – Tyler says “my buddy said I’m on the spectrum” as his first line…. Interesting. I won’t inquire any further.

A BOY IS A GUN - Ok… I’m inquiring. I think…. Tyler might be experimenting? I actually do hope so. Whoever it is, whatever gender they are, has really got Tyler sprung on anotha one. I’m loving the sonics of this song, especially the sample that really reminds me of Jay-Z’s 4:44, with Tyler’s touches of interesting harpsichord and piano entries and pitched up singing as per ujjj.

PUPPET - Ok. Yeah. Sprung. Maybe even codependent? That ain’t healthy, Tyler. You shouldn’t be anybody’s puppet! You got too much money for that. Shout out to Kanye on the second verse.

WHAT’S GOOD - Just to make sure Tyler reminds you he’s “not to be effed with”, he drops this braggadocios heavy beated bump after all the soft stuff. Very similar to the way “I Ain’t Got Time” pulled its weight into Flower Boy. I can’t really tell what exactly he’s talking about on this song though. Almost dying in a car accident? Not letting niggas fw him? I dunno.

GONE, GONE / THANK YOU - Loving the Urban Outfitters vibe this is giving me. I would spend all my money to this. Vocal harmonies are fye with chords that remind one of THE one and only Uncle Charlie. The verse from this song is probably my favorite off the album, I love how visual and emotionally raw it is.

Open up Tyler, I’ll give you a hug after if you want it.

I DON’T LOVE YOU ANYMORE - You sure?

I love this one. Great vocal harmonies, and with assistance of Charlie, Tyler really owns up to his voice on this track. He really faces the internal battle of the breakup when you can’t really decide if you want to move on or hold on to your feelings.

ARE WE STILL FRIENDS - That old school soul, but flipped for a new take! Katie luhhs a real reinvention. And the chord structure, especially during breakdowns is gracious in this song. A great way to end this album off.

This album was a great change of pace for Tyler. He has definitely ushered in an interesting new take on his genre-bending style and I’m genuinely excited to see what he has in store.
